The familiar Brown and White county boundary signs are about to receive an overhaul as part of the Government’s Tourism Policy to review tourism signs; the Secretary of State has announced that these will be replaced with more inspiring coloured signage in order to provide a boost for regional tourism areas.
Cornwall, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Devon, Norfolk and North Yorkshire have been chosen to pilot the £2m scheme to develop and install the new coloured signs which will be located on main roads into these regions.
In the meantime, the review of the guidance on the allocation and placement of the Brown and White tourist signs from specific attractions continues and a consultation on proposed changes will be presented soon. Click Here for further details
Following on from this, I came across a blog by Amanda Hone, whose interest in brown signs has led her on many adventure - lots of information including categories and history, is included.
