St Helena is an island situated in the South Atlantic Ocean, off the south-west coast of Africa. With a population of about 4,000, St Helena is now preparing a strategy to develop the island’s tourism industry further, with an airport planned for 2012. It's a self governing overseas territory of the UK and the Government there sees tourism as a way to become financially independent.
